Suddenly, hair!

I told everyone I would post a picture of my new hair, so here it is!

Sorry for the awful webcam quality, it’s all I could be bothered with right now. I curled it today, haphazardly. I need to learn some more styles, mostly so I can start doing tutorials.
Which I need to do anyway. Because, yeah. I haven’t been.

Anyway.

I have finals next week, and then I get to go home! So expect something next weekend. Something big. Something actually non-boring and non-life-ish.

All the dreads are gone!

Finally! I won’t have a picture until tomorrow, but oh my gosh you guys:

I have hair.

Really. A lot of it. Well, debatably. It’s thin- as it’s always been- but it goes down to my waist when it’s on my back. I’m not used to having hair. I’m in a big cloud of helpwhatdoidowithallthis right now. I washed it. So far so good.

I’ll post a picture tomorrow, when it’s dry and styled. As styled as I’m capable of, anyway. Also, I’ll have a review of my epilator which arrived in the mail a few days ago. Super stoked!

Upcoming tutorials + reviews!

I know I said it would happen already, I know. However, I’ve been so swamped with studying for finals and combing out my hair that I haven’t gotten any time to film or take photographs or anything that I’ve been meaning to do for this blog! Sometimes, life just gets in the way. However, now that I’m a hairy beast, I think it would be fun to start not only doing hair tutorials, but also start making accessories, too!

Thanks to the black hole of timeless despair that I browse on- you may know it as Pinterest- I’ve been feeling inspired. Really, really inspired. Dangerously so.

So, expect some new fun things beginning the 15th when I start break!

And now, a toast.

To you, followers! It can’t be easy work dealing with me all the time, and my increasingly more life-oriented posts. But for some reason, you did it. And for that I’m flattered! So thanks, all thirteen of you, for making me feel like my blog has an audience (even if you don’t read it… :)) because otherwise, I wouldn’t have kept on with it for a whole month!

Style Inspiration: Army Vs. Coral

Army Vs. Coral
While it’s no longer fall, I became inspired by the autumn colors in this sweater from Modcloth and just had to make an outfit inspiration for it. I colorblocked the four colors in the sweater and picked a different focus for each. The reason this look could work without being overbearing is because it follows the three-color strategy– black being a neutral. I love the idea of the coral being accented as a lipcolor also, it contrasts with the army green. In a good way!

The psychology of Christmas presents.

Every year it’s the same for me. I get anxious. I get sweaty. I forget to shave my legs for weeks due to the sheer anticipation of watching someone pick up a gift- my gift- and slowly unwrap it. Or, tear off the paper in the greedy way that occurs when one is handed something wrapped up in cheap Walmart wrapping paper. Either or.

I love giving gifts. For me, it’s a challenge. I have to first decide what the person would like to receive. This task alone requires months of preparation- I have to listen for subconsciously dropped hints, I have to mention various items to my parents: “So, mom. Did you see Plants Vs. Zombies came out with a sequel? Looks fun, huh?” I have to keep my eyes opened for things which are seasonal, and may be discontinued by the time Christmas shopping trips roll around.

And boy, those shopping trips. They fill me with the sort of adrenaline that nothing else can. It’s like waiting in a restaurant for your food to arrive, and then seeing the waitress round the corner.

While you may be thinking “WOW is she crazy, who cares so much about giving gifts? Everyone likes whatever you get them blahblahblah”, just stop. Stop right there. Because while your mom will tell you that from age six when you hand her a paperbag puppet to age thirty when you give her a new set of pans, she’s lying. She is. She wants certain things, just like you do. She wants fun things, or pretty things. Things that actually interest her and make her smile. She would much rather prefer to have you catch her hints or actually consider her instead of picking up any stereotypical “mom-gift” that you see lined up in the entrance of Target.

And that’s my goal with Christmas shopping. Every year I tweak my tactics and alter my approach in order to better perfect my gifts. There’s never a better feeling than watching someone open a gift you bought for them, and having them jump up and down in excitement while raining  thank you‘s onto you. There isn’t. Likewise, there’s no worse feeling than watching someone open a gift and mumble a thanks while they try to figure out why you were ever inspired to pick that up for them. “Do I look like I’m a size 8?”

Hopefully, some of you feel the same spirit of Christmas as I do when giving gifts, whether or not you make your gifts or purchase them or can only afford a smile and a hug. Christmas certainly has a way of making you feel charitable, and giving presents can be a really fun and guiltless experience. Happy December, everyone!

And here, we… GO.

So, I spent the last few days slowly picking out the ends of my dreads with a metal rattail comb.

Never again.

My head hurts, my arms hurt, everything is sore, and I only have a few out. Four? Five? Who knows. All I know is that next time, I’m shaving my head. While it’s definitely possible to remove dreads, it’s hard work.

Here’s a photo of what my combed out hair looked like last night:

And here’s what it looks like today after a good condition and loving:

Keep in mind that I still have 7/8 of my hair left to comb out. My goal is to get it done by next weekend, when I go home. We’ll see.
